Man denies breaching order with Emily Maitlis letter
PA MediaA man has appeared in court to deny breaching a restraining order by sending Emily Maitlis a letter from prison.
Edward Vines, 56, was accused of writing, addressing and sending the letter to Maitlis from HMP Nottingham on 24 September 2025.
The prosecution alleged the act was in breach of a restraining order put in place in September 2022.
Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday, Vines pleaded not guilty. He will next appear at the same court on 14 August.
During the hearing, Vines made an application for the charge to be dismissed, arguing that the restraining order was placed under an incorrect statute and therefore was unenforceable.
However, Judge Mark Watson refused his application, stating that it was issued correctly.
