A council has confirmed parking charges are being reinstated following an administrative error.

Reform UK-led West Northamptonshire Council said off-street parking charges would restart on Friday, reverting to the same charges in place before 1 April.

The council had paused enforcement after admitting it introduced higher tariffs without first carrying out a legally required public consultation.

The local authority said it was still working on a "mechanism" to allow people to claim refunds for the incorrect charges applied throughout April.

The increases had included higher general rates, the removal of two hours of free weekend parking, and the withdrawal of discounts for blue badge holders.

West Northamptonshire Council has been contacted for additional comment.
