A driver has been charged with causing the death of his passenger following a crash last year.

Thomas Chapman, 21, from Brentwood, Essex, was a passenger in the car when it crashed in Hackmans Lane, Purleigh, at about 02:00 GMT on 6 January 2025.

Henry Barnes, 23, of Harrison Close, Brentwood, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving.

He is due to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on 27 November, Essex Police said.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Chapman's family previously described him as "a good and kind man who loved and protected the people in his life".

A charity fundraiser launched in the Tottenham Hotspur fan's memory raised more than £12,000 within a week.
