Runner smashes female record for Jersey Marathon
Standard Chartered Jersey MarathonMore than 2,000 runners took part in the 21st Jersey Marathon on Sunday, with a new female course record being set.
Kenya's Gladys Kiptoo completed the route in 2:35:57 - almost five minutes quicker than the previous best women's time.
Simon Kimtai was the first male to finish the race, in a time of 2:19:56. Overall more than 2,100 people took part across the marathon, relay and marathon mile.
Henry Baye, CEO of Standard Chartered Jersey, said the day was a "brilliant celebration of community spirit" and praised everyone involved.
He added: "We are incredibly proud to support an event that brings the island together and creates a positive impact for local charities and young people."
Starting and finishing at Weighbridge Place in St Helier, the course took runners along the coastline, through St Brelade and as far as Vinchelez de Haut Manor.
Standard Chartered Jersey MarathonSpeaking after the race, female winner Kiptoo said it was "difficult at some points especially along the sea," adding the wind was "very strong".
Organisers said those as young as six and older than 75 from 19 different countries would be taking part.
Road closures and restrictions were in place from 07:30 to 16:00 BST in St Helier, St Lawrence, St John, St Mary, St Ouen, St Peter and St Brelade.
