Fire crews remain at the scene of a large blaze that broke out at a derelict building at the weekend.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to Edgeley Road in Whitchurch at about 15:40 BST on Sunday and worked through the night to get the blaze under control.

On Monday morning, the service said two fire engines remained and were damping down hotspots - and expected to be there for the foreseeable future.

No injuries had been reported, it added.

According to Shropshire Council planning papers, the building, formerly a care home, was subject of a planning application to demolish part of it.

Documents said the home ceased operation in 2021, and the building had since been subject to vandalism and antisocial behaviour resulting in weather and fire damage.
