Substation fire causes 3,000 homes to lose power
BBCAbout 3,000 properties were left without power in Aberdeen after a fire at a substation in the city.
SSEN said a fault at the Ferryhill Substation on Deemount Gardens was caused by a small blaze which was dealt with by the fire service and engineers.
Homes in the Ferryhill and Broomhill areas lost power at about 05:00 with supply back on by 07:00.
Engineers remain on site to carry out repairs.
The fault automatically caused safety equipment to operate.
Nearly half of the affected customers were able to be connected within minutes of safety checks being carried out.
SSEN Distribution thanked them for their understanding.
A spokesperson said: "On the rare occasions there is a fault, our priority is to get the power back on as quickly and as safely as possible, which we did on this occasion in around two hours.
"With the power safely restored and all onsite checks complete, our engineers will remain on site during the day to carry out repairs."
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent two appliances and crews were on the scene for about 50 minutes. No injuries were reported.
