Aldi to form part of new £20m retail park

Detailed plans have been submitted for a new £20m retail area to the south of Derby.

Rothstone Estates has submitted a reserved matters application for the development to the south of Shardlow Road, near Boulton Moor, which is set to include an Aldi, a Starbucks drive-thru cafe and another drive-thru outlet.

Granted outline planning permission in 2024, the latest plans for the site include a BP filling station with an M&S convenience store, a transport hub, and electric vehicle chargers.

A spokesperson for Savills, working on the behalf of the developer, said: "The scheme has been carefully designed to meet the needs of one of Derby's fastest-growing areas."

Savills added the development would create about 140 permanent jobs across retail, hospitality, food service, transport and site management.

Earlier this year, Aldi unveiled plans to open 40 new stores across the UK in 2026 as part of a £370m investment pledge.

The plans submitted to South Derbyshire District Council are under consultation until the end of August.
