Team wins fireworks championships for first time

A team from Kent has taken the crown in the British Fireworks Championships in Plymouth for the first time.

AJ Pyrotechnics won first place, The Fireworkers came second and won the Young People's Choice Award, while Electrify Pyrotechnics and Nemisis Pyrotechnics came joint third on Thursday.

Visit Plymouth said teams were judged based on the quality of performance, compliance with the brief, symmetry, patterns, timing and the "overall artistic impression" of the display.

Nemisis Fireworks, AJ Pyrotechnics, and The Fireworkers put on their performances at the final show, following on from the other three competitors on Wednesday's opening night.

Visit Plymouth said attendees also witnessed a drone show which had been introduced this year, which organisers described as synchronised aerial displays which "brought an iconic Plymouth story to life above the waterfront".

The Young People's Choice Award was created to allow 10 local care-experienced young people to be involved in the judging process.

They gave scores based on the variety of fireworks and sequences, rhythm of the display, use of colour and the "wow factor".

G2 Fireworks and Smart Pyrotechnics also took part in the championships.
