Three men have been arrested after a 22-year-old man was seriously injured in a knife attack in Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police said officers were called to Firth Park Road, in Page Hall, at 16:40 BST on Tuesday to reports of a stabbing.

The 22-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a stable condition.

The force said a 23-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault, while a second man, aged 21, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife or bladed article. A 50-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of assault.

All three remain in custody for questioning.

Insp Alex Gibbons said the victim was "stabbed in broad daylight".

He added: "This should not be happening in our communities, yet we are continuing to see the devastation that knife crime brings.

"Everyone should recognise the senselessness of this violence and it is vital that those responsible are brought to justice."

He has called for anyone with information about the attack to contact police.
