Historic hotel could be transformed into home

A historic hotel that is a "nationally important heritage asset" could be transformed into a private home.

The owners of Chateau La Chaire in Rozel in St Martin have submitted a planning application to change the use of the Grade II-listed building, saying the move will "secure the long-term future" of the site.

The 19th-Century building was put on the market in November for £4.5m and has 14 bedrooms, 18 bathrooms and eight reception rooms.

Hotel bosses said the proposal for Jersey's "nationally important heritage asset" is based on the principle of "conservation through continued occupation" and that no changes would be made to it.

If approved, the owners said the move would secure the long-term use of the building and support ongoing investment in its repair, maintenance and stewardship.

They added that the move would "substantially reduce traffic movements, servicing, commercial deliveries, noise associated with commercial activities, energy consumption and demand on local infrastructure".
