Reopening date revealed for lorry-struck pub

A pub that was badly damaged when a lorry hit it almost two years ago will reopen in September, its owners have said.

Black Country Ales, the owner of The Three Fishes in Bayston Hill, Shropshire, had completed its purchase of the pub about five hours before the lorry struck.

The crash also seriously damaged a Chinese takeaway next door which has since reopened. Work on the pub began in April this year, with a partial demolition required in order to make it safe.

"We expect currently, unless we hit any more snags, to be open on 24 September," said Rob Gazzard, area manager for Black Country Ales.

"Things are progressing really, really nicely.

"We are very excited to see the opening of this pub, it's nearly two years in the making, and it'll be great to give something back to the local community."

Of the restoration programme following demolition operations, for which planning permission was granted in March, Gazzard said: "We try and keep [our pubs] looking as authentic and vintage as we possibly can do."

A recruitment process for the venue on the A49 is under way to find someone to run it.
