The States Assembly approved Senator Lyndon Farnham's ministerial nominees

The final appointments to Jersey's new government have been completed with the final two ministerial positions filled.

Senator Alan Maclean was appointed as Treasury Minister and Senator Gerald Voisin was elected as Minister for Economic Development on Tuesday morning.

Their appointments mean all of Chief Minister Lyndon Farnham's nominations have been approved by the assembly.

He said his government had been trusted with great responsibility.

Voisin's nomination as Economic Development Minister was challenged by Deputy Montfort Tadier.

However, the assembly voted in favour of Voisin, with 32 voting for him while 13 voted for Tadier.

In his speech, outlining his vision for the role, Voisin focused on growing the economy.

He said: "Our island economy has seen virtually zero economic growth since 2000, as a result of this, since 2001, our real average earnings have increased by zero.

"The point is that economic growth matters."

Maclean, who previously served in the States Assembly for 13 years, ran unopposed for the treasury minister role.

After the appointments were finalised, Farnham addressed the assembly.

He said: "I would like to congratulate my fellow ministerial colleagues.

"I would remind members that this is a moment of responsibility, not a moment of celebration.

"The electorate have put their trust in the assembly to deliver and they will judge us, not by our words today, but by the difference we make to their lives over the next four years."

A new ministry for planning and regulation has been created but that role will come into effect at a later date after necessary legislative changes have been made.
