Family lawyer is inspirational woman of the year
Corbett le QuesneA family lawyer who devotes hours of free time to helping families who need legal help and has been involved in recent changes to the divorce laws has been named Inspirational Woman of the Year by a Jersey charity.
Barbara Corbett was announced as the Soroptimist International Jersey (SIJ) award winner at a ceremony at the Savoy Hotel in St Helier on Friday.
The shortlisted candidates included Magdelena Chmielewska who was picked for her work supporting the Polish community, serving as Honorary Consul for the Republic of Poland.
Danielle Mynes was also shortlisted for her work as a teacher, and for her ongoing efforts with girls to end gender-based violence.
SIJ president Debbie Taylor said there were 24 nominees and it was important to celebrate their work.
"Women do an important lot of things they don't get paid for, they are all under the radar, many hours of selfless work."
She added: "This is a way of celebrating them."
She said it was "tricky" to pick the winner.
