There will be a new pedestrian footpath to ensure safe movement within the car park

Plans for a new car park at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital have been submitted.

The proposal would see 56 parking bays next to the Copthorne Building, as well as two designated for electric vehicle charging, and three that are accessible.

The layout had been designed to maximise parking capacity "while ensuring adequate circulation space and compliance with accessibility requirements", Tracy Awanyo from Nexus Planning said.

There will be a new pedestrian footpath to ensure safe movement in the car park.

The site would be "accessed via the existing hospital road network from Mytton Oak Road", Awanyo said.

She said the development would include appropriate lighting to ensure safety and security "for users during darker hours".

A biodiversity net gain assessment has been submitted along with the full planning application.

It stated while some existing areas of low-quality modified grassland and a limited number of trees would be removed, they would be replaced and enhanced.

Awanyo said the proposed development would "result in a clear uplift in ecological value, with the landscaping strategy designed not only to mitigate the impacts of development but to deliver long-term biodiversity benefits in accordance with national policy".

The plans can be viewed via Shropshire Council's planning portal and a consultation period expires on 26 May.
