Leisure centre set for summer opening after revamp
Staffordshire Moorlands District CouncilA major redevelopment of a leisure centre has entered its "final stage" ahead of a summer reopening, a local authority said.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council said the £17m redevelopment of the centre in Brough Park, Leek, was close to completion.
Most of the interior work has now been completed, and the project was set to move on to the testing and commissioning stage.
New features include a new 25-metre (82ft) six-lane swimming pool and a larger teaching pool, a bigger gym and second group exercise studio, as well as a new, dedicated indoor cycling studio.
Visitors will also be able to access a community wellness suite, an indoor soft adventure play area and a new reception space with a cafe and toilets.
The centre was originally due to open towards the beginning of the year, but was pushed back due to a large-scale upgrade of the local electricity network.
Councillor Matt Swindlehurst said: "It's going to change the leisure and wellbeing landscape in Leek and the whole of the Staffordshire Moorlands and I can't wait to open the doors and welcome everyone back."
The general manager has been appointed and MyActive - which will run the site - has started to recruit staff to work in the centre.
The redevelopment has been funded by the government, the district council and Sport England through the National Lottery.
