Boy, 17, has leg amputated after Barry Island stabbing
Getty ImagesA teenager stabbed at Barry Island has had his leg amputated following the attack, police have said.
The 17-year-old, from Cardiff, suffered a serious leg injury during the bank holiday incident on 25 May.
South Wales Police said the teenager received critical care at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
An 18-year-old man, from Cardiff, arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent remains on bail while enquiries continue.
Det Insp Sarah Lee said the victim's injuries had proved to be far more serious than first thought.
"The extent and seriousness of the injury sustained by the teenage victim is absolutely devastating," she said.
"Understandably his family are distraught, and they have been assigned a specially trained family liaison officer for additional support."
South Wales Police said the teenager's injury was not initially believed to be life threatening or life changing.
However, he has since undergone a leg amputation.
The force said investigators were continuing to examine hundreds of hours of CCTV footage and trace potential witnesses.
