Arrests after 20 homes evacuated in grenade alert

Four men have been arrested after about 20 homes were evacuated following reports of a grenade at a property in Glossop.

Derbyshire Police said officers were called to an address in Queen Street in the early hours of Friday.

The force said residents from about 20 homes were told to leave before the Army's explosive Ordnance Division attended and found the device was not a risk. All residents have since been allowed back.

One man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a prohibited weapon, officers said, while three other men were detained on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

The force said the four arrested men remained in custody while inquiries continued.

It added a police presence would remain in the area but there was no wider risk to the public.
