Highlights of Liberation Day activities held in St Peter Port will include a longstanding running race that will be marking its 80th anniversary.

Organisers of the event - taking place on 9 May to mark the end of Guernsey's Nazi occupation during World War Two - have confirmed the activities taking place in the town.

The 2026 programme includes the Liberation 7 Road Race, which was first run in 1946, as athletes take on the seven-mile (11.2km) course from Rousse to North Beach.

Before the day concludes with fireworks, there will be a dance zone between the Weighbridge and Crown Pier featuring performances from local groups while an inflatable football pitch will be on the seafront.

Guernsey Arts will have a showcase of music and extracts from one-act plays at Castle Cornet while a range of local craft, charity and artisan stalls will be along South Esplanade, organisers said.

A children's zone will be set up at Crown Pier during the day with an opportunity to meet some Royal Golden Guernsey Goats also at the site.

The parade which forms part of the day is set to begin at 09:40 at the White Rock.

Deputy Andy Cameron, Liberation Day lead for the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture, said: "The programme for St Peter Port is really varied and I want to thank those involved in coming together on such an important day for our community."
