Men, 49 and 56, died in collision, police say

Two people who died when a car crashed into a group of pedestrians in Doncaster were men aged 49 and 56, police have confirmed.

The incident happened on White Rose Way at about 11:00 BST on Sunday, when a black Mitsubishi L200 hit the pedestrians before then striking a black Audi and silver BMW on the opposite carriageway.

The families of both men had been informed and were receiving support, a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 30-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and driving while unfit and was subsequently released on bail.

Four other people were taken to hospital with serious injuries after the collision.

Officers previously appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash, which took place between Carriage Drive and Middle Bank Roundabout, or who had dashcam footage from the scene, to contact South Yorkshire Police.
