Plan for 300 homes in town set for approval
GooglePlans for up to 300 homes in Coalville are set to be given the go-ahead.
North West Leicestershire District Council's planning committee has been advised to approve a planning application on 28 October from Barwood Development Securities Ltd to build a housing development on land off Broom Leys Road and Stephenson Way.
According to planning documents, the proposals received 50 letters of representation, which raised concerns including increased congestion and extra pressure on public services in the area.
However, a report from planning officers concluded the proposals would make a "meaningful contribution" to local housing needs.
Documents submitted with the application state 43% of land in the proposed site - which currently comprises mainly agricultural land - would be green space, and would contain ponds and play areas.
The application will be subject to a Section 106 legal agreement in which the developer will pay towards services in the area, including more than £2m towards education in the area, along with more than £2m to transport.
"The additional population resulting from the proposed development will support existing services, maintaining the long-term viability of local schools, shops, pubs and other community services and facilities, thereby ensuring the continuing vitality of Coalville," a report submitted by the applicant said.
