Duo completes second leg of floating car challenge

A floating car has completed a cross-sea journey for charity in less than an hour.

Paul Phillips and Gary Ward took the yellow Daihatsu vehicle they converted into an amphibious vehicle on a three-mile (4.8km) trip from Guernsey to Herm on Sunday.

The 45-minute journey was part of a fundraising effort for the St John Ambulance Flying Christine III marine ambulance on which Phillips and Ward both work as volunteers.

It was the second trip the car has made across the water from Guernsey after it completed a nine-mile (14.5km) journey to Sark on 5 September, with more than £14,000 raised so far for the marine ambulance.

Ambulance and Rescue Guernsey said Phillips and Ward were welcomed by community first responders on Herm after completing the journey.

Phillips and Ward had been due to travel from Guernsey to Herm at the end of August but were forced to postpone due to poor weather.

"Congratulations and well done to Gary and Paul, the driving force behind the challenge," a spokesperson for Ambulance and Rescue Guernsey said.
