More than £1m to tackle city's rough sleeping

More than £1m has been ring-fenced to help people sleeping rough or at risk of homelessness in Worcester.

Worcester City Council was awarded £1.3m through the government's Rough Sleeping Programme, and said the funding would help those affected to access accommodation and support.

The authority added it would work with partners across the city to provide "proactive outreach, additional accommodation options and intensive support" aimed at helping people move away from rough sleeping for good.

Council leader Lynn Denham said: "Tackling homelessness and rough sleeping is an absolute priority for the city council and the dedicated network of partners who work closely with us."

She added: "The issues of homelessness and rough sleeping are not just about housing, and they are not challenges that the city council can solve alone.

"We are committed to working closely with our partners to deliver meaningful and lasting change for Worcester.

"This additional funding will enable our housing team to build on the local partnership working which has already been established."

The most recent figures released by Worcester City Council stated the authority received 2,121 approaches for homelessness assistance in 2024/25.

An official count recorded 24 people sleeping rough in Worcester on a single night in October 2024, including 20 men and four women.
