A rapist has been jailed, as police commended the "sheer bravery" of his victim.

Toby Snow, 29, from Scunthorpe, was found guilty of four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault following a four-day trial at Hull Crown Court in September.

He was found not guilty of intentional strangulation.

Snow was sentenced at Grimsby Crown Court on 16 October to 11 years in prison, with an extended licence period of four years. He will also be on the sex offenders register for the remainder of his life.

Det Con Douglass, of Humberside Police, said: "These offences were appalling and deeply violating. The level of abuse and violence Snow subjected a woman to showed complete disregard for her well-being, dignity and safety."

Douglass commended the "sheer bravery" of the victim, and said Snow "refused to admit his actions and forced her to relive what happened to her during the trial".

Douglass added: "We take all reports of sexual offences extremely seriously and will continue to seek justice for those who have suffered at the hands of individuals like Snow who have committed such despicable crimes."
