Boy hospitalised after electric bike hit-and-run

A 12-year-old boy was hospitalised with a fractured skull after a hit-and-run in Barnsley.

The collision, involving an electric bike, took place on Houghton Road in Thurnscoe on Thursday evening when the child was said to have been crossing the road, South Yorkshire Police said.

A force spokesperson said the rider fled the scene, with the bike believed to have been found by officers a short time later.

On social media, Dearne and District Football Club said the victim was one of their players and was being treated in hospital for a fractured skull and a broken ankle. The force spokesperson asked anyone with information about the hit-and-run to get in touch.
