Kirandeep Kaur, 24, was killed in July in her home while sleeping next to her husband and baby

A trial date has been set for a man who is accused of breaking into the home of a mother and fatally stabbing her as she slept in bed with her husband and three-month-old baby.

Daniel Sean James, 44, is alleged to have attacked Kirandeep Kaur, 24, in her home on Uxbridge Road in Hayes, west London, in the early hours of 12 July.

He is charged with her murder and is currently being held in custody. James was due to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on Monday, but he was not present.

His trial is scheduled to start on 12 April next year.

The court heard James now uses a wheelchair, according to his lawyer Jonathan Higgs KC.

Prosecutor Mukul Chawla KC said, however, the defendant was "fully ambulatory" up until the time of the offence.

Kaur was originally from the Punjab in India and had moved to London two years previously.

Shortly after her death her family told the BBC they "never thought such a thing could happen to her in London".
