Family tribute to 'beautiful soul' killed in multi-vehicle crash

The family of a woman who was killed in a four-car crash near Edinburgh Airport have described her as a "beautiful soul".

Linda Patterson, 58, was driving a Hyundai i30 when the collision happened on the A8, near Newbridge, on Monday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shola Richards, 32, has since been charged with offences including causing death by dangerous driving and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Richards, of Broxburn, West Lothian, was also charged with failing to stop after the incident and failing to provide driver's details to police.

During a private appearance before Edinburgh Sheriff Court he made no plea and was remanded in custody for further examination.

Police Scotland said the crash, which happened at about 9:25, also involved a Mercedes A250, Skoda Karoq and a Renault Captur.

Linda's family said she was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend who brought so much love and joy to those who knew her.

In a statement they added: "She had an amazing ability to always look on the positive side of life and was a great support and comfort to those she loved.

"Linda was a beautiful soul whose warmth and cheery sense of humour left their mark on everyone she knew.

"She will be greatly missed.

"We are devastated by her loss, but she will be forever in our hearts."

Sgt Mike Thomson said the force's thoughts remained with Linda's family and friends at this "devastating" time.

He added: "Our investigation remains ongoing, though we are not looking for anyone else in connection, and we are continuing to appeal for information from the public.

"If you have not already spoken to police and believe you know something which may assist, please get in touch."

The officer also urged anyone with relevant dash-cam footage or private CCTV to get in touch.
