A 36-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the rape and murder of a pensioner.

Edward Holden is accused of murdering a woman, who was in her 80s, at a bungalow in the village of Ashton, near Helston, Cornwall, on Friday.

Holden, of Alexandra Place, Penzance, appeared before a judge at Truro Crown Court on Tuesday and did not enter any pleas.

A trial date has been set for 23 November and Holden was remanded in custody.
