Northampton North MP appointed to top treasury job
ReutersThe Labour MP for Northampton North has said she is "deeply honoured" to have been appointed as chief secretary to the Treasury.
Lucy Rigby has been the economic secretary to the Treasury since 6 September and previously held the role of solicitor general.
The move follows Wes Streeting, the former health secretary, resigning from government on Thursday.
Rigby was elected as a Labour MP in July 2024 and had previously worked as a solicitor.
On a Facebook post she said she was "looking forward to continuing this Government's work to build a stronger, more secure economy".
The role means she will now attend cabinet meetings and is responsible for public expenditure including spending reviews, strategic planning, in-year spending controls and for driving efficiency and value for money.
