Candidates standing for Ramsey
MANX SCENESSix candidates have announced they will be standing in the general election for the Ramsey constituency.
A town in the north of the Isle of Man, Ramsey sits between the larger by landmass constituencies of Garff and Ayre and Michael.
With a strong maritime heritage, the port is a hub for commercial freight and still has a working fishing fleet, as well as being home to the island's only remaining shipyard.
The most notable feature on its coastline is the Queen's Pier, built in 1880 and named in honour of Queen Victoria.
The iron structure fell into disrepair in the later part of the 1900s but is currently undergoing a restoration programme led by volunteers.
Albert Tower on Lhergy Frissell, overlooking the town, was also built to commemorate a visit by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1847 which saw the prince consort climb to the top of the hill.
The northern constituency also boasts a popular boating lake situated within the picturesque Mooragh Park, which sits near the seafront.
In 2023, the electoral commission recorded the population in the area as 8,276, with 6,284 registered to vote as of October 2025.
Alex Allinson, who had represented the constituency since 2016, has decided not to seek reelection.
