Island prison to be investigated by UK inspector
BBCGuernsey's prison will be investigated by an external UK inspector within the next 12 months, the Committee for Home Affairs has said.
Vice-President Deputy John Gollop told the States about the inspection while answering questions about complaints against prison officers, which the deputy said he could not comment on due to ongoing matters at Guernsey Prison.
In April, prison governor John de Carteret stepped aside amid an investigation into his conduct.
Gollop said: "I think we are going as far as we can. And I personally wish to see more thematic understanding, because we realised as a committee we actually need to know what the issues are."
An internal investigation was also launched after inmate Darren Salituri was found dead in his cell in February.
