A woman in her 50s has died in a collision between a car and a truck on the A1 in Northumberland.

Northumbria Police said a BMW and a Mercedes HGV were travelling in opposite directions on the stretch near Causey Park in the Earsdon area when the crash happened just after 16:00 BST on Monday.

Emergency services attended but a passenger in the BMW, a woman in her 50s was pronounced dead the scene.

It led to the closure of the road between the A697 junction and the Acklington junction for about 10 hours.
