Puppy dies after lakeside dog attack

A puppy attacked by a suspected pit bull-type dog has died.

The 19-week-old German Shepherd was attacked by the unaccompanied dog near Hemlington Lake, in Middlesbrough, on Sunday, police said.

The puppy, Lincoln, needed emergency surgery but could not survive his injuries and had to be put down on Monday. His owner also needed hospital treatment after being bitten.

The force said a man and a woman in their 30s were arrested in connection with the incident and have since been bailed.
