Teen suffers life-threatening injuries in stabbing
Phil OldershawA teenager has been found with life-threatening injuries after a stabbing in Birmingham, with police saying it was understood a fight began between two groups.
Officers were called to Victoria Square in the city centre at about 20:30 BST on Tuesday, after the 17-year-old boy was discovered injured.
He was taken to hospital and remains in a stable condition.
West Midlands Police said a cordon remained in place on Wednesday morning while officers forensically examined the area.
Phil OldershawThe force said it was also reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses.
Det Supt Lucy Kirwan said: "We know this will cause concern to those living, working and visiting the city centre, and we will have an increased presence in the area to offer reassurance."
She said the incident had happened "at a busy time last night" and the force knew there were "a lot of people in the area".
Kirwan asked anyone with mobile phone footage of what happened or who could provide information to contact police.
