National Highways has advised drivers to allow extra time for their journeys while police inquiries continue

A section of a major road in West Sussex remains closed following a serious crash.

National Highways says the A27 is closed in both directions between the A280 (Clapham) and the A24 near Worthing.

The collision involved a motorcycle which happened shortly before 21:00 BST on Tuesday.

It adds Sussex Police are still at the scene and diversions are in place.

The highways authority says eastbound traffic is being directed via the A280 from Clapham, joining the A24 at Findon before re-joining the A27 at Offington.

Westbound traffic is being diverted along the A24 northbound from Offington, then on to the A280 via Findon before returning to the A27 at Clapham.

It advised drivers to allow extra time for their journeys and to consider alternative routes.
