A major commuter route has been impacted and people are having to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke from a large industrial fire.

Firefighters were called on Monday to Ty Menter in Navigation Park Abercynon, Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said.

Smoke is affecting visibility on the A470 and nearby homes.

One eyewitness described a "tornado-like" flame above one of the buildings before a roof collapsed.

Business-owner Zach Bennett, 19, said he spotted a plume of smoke above the trees and drove over for a closer look.

"I wanted to get some pictures and was just being nosy," he said.

"A lot of people must have has the same idea because there were more people driving towards the fire than away, which was peculiar."

Bennett said when he arrived staff had been evacuated and were standing at muster points around buildings that were engulfed in flames.

"Above the peak of one roof there was a tornado-like kind of flame and the being windy it was going very high," he said.

"The fire brigade was spraying water but then the roof collapsed and they let it burn."
