Carer and teacher named in King's Birthday Honours
Janine MussonA gymnastics coach, a retired professor and a carer are among 16 people from Northamptonshire to be named in the King's Birthday Honours list.
They were recognised for their contribution to a range of activities including education, care and public service.
Coach Janine Musson was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to gymnastics, and described the honour as "very surreal".
Prof Eunice Lumsden was appointed an OBE for services to children's rights and welfare, and Northamptonshire Carers chief executive Mark Major was appointed an MBE for services to carers.
Mark Major"The biggest honour for me has really been to do this job and to support carers for a good many years," Major said.
"I've been a carer myself in the past, and my wife and I are carers again now for our daughter, so it means an awful lot to me that it was for services to carers."
Lumsden said her award would not have been possible without the people she worked with, calling it a "spotlight for all the thousands of people that have worked in this sector".
"All I'd ever hoped for was that I would undertake work that would make a difference," she said.
Eunice LumsdenOther Northamptonshire recipients included headteacher Richard Bernard, awarded an MBE for services to education, and farmer Milly Fyfe, also appointed an MBE, for services to farming and family nutrition.
Almost 1,200 people from across the UK received an honour in the latest list.
