Stolen van driven wrong way forced off road by police

A man has been arrested after a van was driven the wrong way along a major road before police later gave chase and forced it off the road.

Kent Police said it was called after reports someone had stolen the vehicle from an address in Swanscombe, Dartford, on Sunday afternoon.

The van was spotted travelling against the flow of traffic on the A20 before a pursuit that ended in Bromley, London, when a Metropolitan Police car made "tactical contact" with the vehicle to bring it to a stop.

A 23-year-old man from Swanley was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, criminal damage, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and failing to stop for police.

He remains in custody while inquiries continue.

One Metropolitan Police officer suffered an injury to his hand during the incident and no other serious injuries were reported.
