Channel Islands pride a day of 'self love'

A colourful day of events in Guernsey has marked the second Channel Islands Pride event.

Channel Islands pride took place on Saturday at La Vallette Bathing Pools, rather than its previous Guernsey base of Market Square in St Peter Port.

Magenta, a drag queen who attended the event, said: "Pride's important for everybody. It's a day of expression and self-love ... and be proud of who you are and where you're from."

Ellie Jones, Pride director and chief executive of LGBTQ+ charity Liberate, said the event was about "solidarity" and coming together. The day included a Pride march, a 50m (164ft) rainbow flag and entertainment.

Jones said she believed Pride events were important "across the globe" and "everything's just coming together".

The event opened on Friday with a pre-Pride comedy and cabaret night and continues on Sunday with a pool party from 14:00 to 21:00.

The parade on Saturday began at the Rainbow Steps in Market Square and made its way through the town before reaching the Pride village.

Hosting of Channel Islands Pride alternates between Guernsey and Jersey each year.
