Lorry driver drugs arrest after motorway crash

A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after a crash involving three vehicles left two people with life-threatening injuries.

South Yorkshire Police were called to reports of a collision involving a DAF lorry, an MG car and a Ford Kuga, between junctions 4 and 3 on the southbound carriageway of the M18 near Doncaster at 17:35 BST on Wednesday.

A man, 68, and a woman, 64, who were in the MG, were taken to hospital where their condition is described as life-threatening, while a 56-year-old man, who was travelling in the Ford, suffered minor injuries.

Police said the 46-year-old HGV driver was also arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury from dangerous driving.

The M18 remained closed until about 01:00 BST on Thursday.

Police appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch.
