Amazon launches young adult warehouse internships
BBCA charity has teamed up with Amazon to offer internships for young adults.
Placements, including in warehousing and logistics, at the Amazon warehouse near Hull will be offered to those aged 18 to 24 with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
The scheme was created by Project Search, a national charity that enables young adults with learning disabilities to secure permanent employment.
Councillor Victoria Aitken, East Riding of Yorkshire Council's cabinet member for children, families and education, said it was a "great opportunity" for young people with an EHCP to gain experience of working and developing workplace skills.
The year-long programme will begin in September and will see interns taking part in a mix of departments, supported by a job coach and workplace mentor.
The council said the scheme, at the site just outside North Ferriby, would help young people transition from education into employment.
Classroom-based learning delivered by Humber Learning Consortium will also be on hand for students to develop employability skills as part of the programme.
An online event is taking place on 20 May from 13:00 to 14:00 BST and 18:00 to 19:00 for those interested to be given an overview of the programme and details of how to apply.
The new programme is being delivered in partnership with Humber Learning Consortium, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Hull City Council.
Humberside Police, City Health Care Partnership, Siemens Mobility and Asda also run internship programmes supporting students.
