Teens smashing windows and harassing people on a town's main shopping street have caused police to issue a dispersal order.

A group of about eight young people damaged a business and were being a nuisance on Dalton Road in Barrow, Cumbria, on Tuesday evening, Cumbria Police said.

The force issued a dispersal order, which gives it power to remove people causing anti-social behaviour from an area. It is in place until 19:45 BST.

"We know the detrimental effect these incidents have on our communities and businesses and our priority is to ensure that everyone feels safe in their local area," said Insp Grant Kelso.

More patrols will also be in place in the area.

Insp Kelso said parents should make sure they know where their children are and to speak to them about consequences of anti-social behaviour.

"Some of the behaviour we have seen, especially last night, is unacceptable and will not be tolerated," he added.
