Blaze breaks out at household recycling centre

A fire has broken out at a household recycling centre in Peterborough.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to the site in Fengate at about 10:30 BST and crews were sent from Stanground and Dogsthorpe, as well as an additional fire engine.

Firefighters put out the blaze in a skip, with the cause believed to be "accidental", a spokeswoman for the service said.

There have been no reported injuries, she added.

The city council said the centre had been closed due to the blaze.

A spokeswoman for the local authority said: "Staff are working with the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service to manage the incident and the centre will reopen as soon as possible."

She added that any updates about its reopening would be shared on the council's social media channels.
