Pedestrian critical after being hit by a car
BBC/Simon HumphreysA man is in a critical condition after he was hit by a car in Stoke-on-Trent.
The pedestrian, in his 30s, suffered serious injuries after he was struck by a white Toyota Prius on the A53 Etruria Road at about 03:15 BST on Saturday.
He is currently receiving treatment in hospital, Staffordshire Police said, and the driver of the vehicle has been helping officers with their inquiries.
The A53 roundabout has been closed along with the road's westbound carriageway heading from Festival Park to the A500 roundabout.
The eastbound carriageway towards Festival Park remained open, the force confirmed, but people should avoid the area.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or who might have relevant CCTV or dashcam footage has been urged to contact police.
