School term pedestrian crossing made permanent

A trial pedestrian crossing to help children and families get to school safely in St Helier will become permanent, the government has said.

The part-time crossing on Clarence Road at the junction with Pleasant Street, Grosvenor Street and College Hill will operate during school term time between 07:45 and 08:45, and 14:25 and 15:45.

Officials said the trial had been a success and it would be made permanent, in addition to safer school zones across the island.

These include a sign-controlled crossing on Bagatelle Road, St Saviour's School off-road shared path and pedestrian crossing, JCG crossing improvements on Mont Millais and a traffic restriction trial at Fountain Lane.

The government said the scheme would continue to be monitored to help inform any future changes.
