A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a fatal stabbing in Birmingham.

The suspect, in his 20s, was detained with two other men on Sunday night when officers stopped a vehicle in Staffordshire, West Midlands Police said.

It came after a man in his 30s died in hospital on Friday, three days after he was found with stab wounds on Ashville Avenue in the Hodge Hill area of Birmingham.

A police spokesperson said the other two men were being held on suspicion of assisting an offender and all three remained in custody for questioning.

Inquiries into the stabbing were ongoing, they added, and officers were keen to hear from anyone with information.

"There has been an increased police presence in the area since the incident, and this will continue," the force added.
