A1 carriageway closed after serious crash

The northbound carriageway of the A1 in Nottinghamshire has been closed following a serious crash.

National Highways said the road had been closed by Nottinghamshire Police between the A6075 Tuxford and the A638 Markham Moor for "full investigation works".

A Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said it was called on Sunday morning after a car crashed into a tree. Two women were taken to hospital.

In a post on social media, National Highways said there was "no time for reopening at this stage".

Nottinghamshire Police has been contacted for further information.
