A police investigation has been launched following the unexplained death of a child in woodland.

Emergency services were called to reports of a child in cardiac arrest on land near Strawberry Lane in Great Wyrley, Staffordshire, at about 08:45 BST on Saturday.

An air ambulance was sent to the scene, but the child was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later, Staffordshire Police said.

The force, which has not confirmed the age of the child or any other details, is currently treating the death as unexplained.

Roads in the area were closed throughout the day while investigations took place and officers were expected to remain at the scene throughout the evening.
