Charity aims to help children with mobility issues
The Mobility CentreA Gobowen charity has launched a campaign to help clear its waiting list for children needing physiotherapy by Christmas.
The Movement Centre, which offers support to children with movement disabilities, started the "30 for 30" campaign in the hope of persuading "30 different businesses, organisations, groups or individuals" to raise £1500 each for the charity, it said.
The £45,000 needed would buy 30 specialist standing frames to help children currently waiting begin targeted physiotherapy training.
Claire Snape, head of fundraising at the centre, said the money has the "power to transform 30 lives".
Situated next to the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, The Movement Centre is an independent charity and doesn't receive any NHS or government funding.
Snape said the fundraiser comes at a time when charities are struggling to raise money.
"We have come through a period of growth in that we are supporting more children than we ever have, [but] we're struggling to keep up on the fundraising side," she added.
"[The charity] relies totally on our local community, local businesses and to raise funds and donate to fund our familys' care."
"Life-changing programme"
One of the first £1500 donations came from Nigel West and his family, owner of Fiveways Insurance Group in Newport and Stafford.
The family were inspired to take part because West's godson Jacob was helped by the centre when he was four years old.
"Every day, a young child is forced to wait for this life-changing programme, which means they are losing precious time when they could be making a real difference to their mobility," West added.
"We have seen the difference The Movement Centre made to Jacob and his family and want others to enjoy the same success."
