Boy, 6, killed by car 'brought so much joy'
HandoutThe family of a "beautiful, bubbly" six-year-old boy who was struck and killed by a car have said he "brought so much joy" in his short life.
Kanan-Jay McLeod died on 19 April when he was hit by a black Infiniti FX30D car on Anchor Drive in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.
A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drug driving and driving without a licence and has since been bailed pending further inquiries.
In their first statement since his death, Kanan-Jay's family said they were "heartbroken" but "incredibly grateful for the kindness, love and support shown to us by the community at this unimaginable time".
They said: "He was a cheeky little character with a big smile, a kind heart and an infectious personality, with a love for gaming, cars and football, especially Liverpool Football Club.
"He adored spending time playing with his cousins, his friends, his auntie T and uncles Lewis and Liam, filling our days with happy memories that we will treasure forever."
'Tragic incident'
Kanan-Jay was treated near Whitby Sports and Social Club and then transported to the Countess of Chester Hospital, but died from his injuries.
Det Sgt Iain Condliffe said at the time: "This was a tragic incident in which a young child lost his life, and we are committed to doing all we can to establish exactly what took place.
"As part of our investigation, we're keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the initial collision on Anchor Drive, or anyone with any video footage or the incident.
"I'd also like to hear from anyone who was present when the child was later treated near to Whitby Sports and Social Club."
