Prisoner denies attempting to murder imam in jail
PAA serving prisoner accused of stabbing an imam five times in the head and neck has denied attempted murder.
Ahmed Alid, 47, appeared at the Old Bailey via video link from HMP Wakefield on Friday and pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.
The court previously heard Alid allegedly attempted to murder Roderic Vassie at HMP Full Sutton, in East Yorkshire, after Friday prayers on 8 August 2025.
He will face trial at Newcastle Crown Court on 25 November.
It is alleged he was in possession of an offensive weapon, namely a piece of metal, inside HMP Full Sutton, on the same day.
The court previously heard that Alid was transferred to HMP Wakefield, where he is accused of attacking prison officer Sarah Mitchell, who suffered a broken nose, bruising and other injuries, on 21 October last year.
The defendant, who was remanded in custody, was assisted by a Moroccan translator during the hearing.
